Current Post

Dr. Smith is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Computer Science at University College London where he advises PhD students, many in financial computing and social media research. He is also a founding member of UCL’s Centre for the Study of Decision-Making Uncertainty and has developed courses in Machine Learning Masters Programs and Intelligent Systems Masters Programs.

Past Positions

Previously, Dr. Smith was the Director of
the Intelligent Computer System Centre
at the University of the West of England (1997-2005) where he led research on complex systems based A.I.. Prior to that he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering at the
University of Alabama in the USA (1991-1998), where he developed and taught one of
the first graduate courses on genetic algorithms and led a pioneering laboratory conducting research on A.I. in engineering.
